Assistant Manager
And Destroy Coffee & Gaming – Los Angeles, CA
Position type: Full-Time, Hourly, Nonexempt
And Destroy Coffee & Gaming is looking for an Assistant Manager who can help run a fun, welcoming café and gaming space. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who cares about great coffee, efficient service, a strong team culture, and making regulars feel like they belong here.
You’ll work closely with the General Manager to keep the daily operation running well- from bar flow and inventory, to staff coaching, food safety, and guest experience. When the General Manager is off-site, you’ll be the person responsible for the team staying organized and running smoothly.
The goal here at And Destroy is simple: we want to serve excellent drinks, keep the café clean and well-stocked, and help make And Destroy a place people genuinely feel welcome at and want to return to… regardless of whether they are grabbing a quick coffee, getting some work done, or settling in for full night of gaming.
What you’ll do:
Lead the floor
- Act as the manager on duty when present
- Set the tone through your own work ethic: show up prepared, stay present on the floor, jump in where needed
- Help resolve guest concerns and team issues
- Communicate clearly with the team about priorities, shift expectations, menu updates, events, and operational changes
- Consistently and fairly enforce company policies, workplace expectations, and performance standards, including addressing issues directly and escalating concerns to the General Manager when appropriate.
Support and develop the team
- Coach baristas in hospitality standards, coffee quality, cleanliness
- Help train new hires so they feel supported and understand how we do things here
- Encourage a collaborative environment where team members can ask questions, share ideas, and take ownership of their work
- Help maintain consistent opening, closing, cash-handling, prep, cleaning, and general operational standards
Create a great guest experience
- Help make every guest feel welcome, whether they are a first-time visitor, a daily regular, a tabletop gamer, or someone who just wandered in for a latte
- Lead with a guest-first mindset while still protecting the pace, standards, and boundaries of the staff
- Help uphold the experience around games nights and community events so they are organized and easy for guests to enjoy
- Respond appropriately to workplace safety concerns, disruptive guest behavior, emergencies, and other operational incidents, documenting and escalating issues in accordance with company procedures.
Keep operations clean and dialed in
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, health, safety, and cleaning standards in accordance with company procedures and Los Angeles County requirements
- Help ensure that equipment, workstations, storage areas, and guest spaces in good condition
- Flag maintenance, safety, product-quality, staffing, or workflow issues before they become bigger problems
Support inventory and profitability
- Assist with receiving, organizing, counting, and ordering inventory, including café supplies, merchandise, and gaming-related products.
- Monitor inventory levels, product availability, and quality, communicating shortages or ordering needs promptly.
- Help make sure the team is using recipes, portions, prep standards, and products consistently
Help grow the business
- Support the General Manager in meeting sales, labor, service, and operational goals
- Be the eyes, ears & hands on the floor by reporting valuable guest feedback, busy periods, bestselling products, recurring issues, and any other opportunities to improve the experience for both guests and staff
- Help execute promotions, menu launches, special events, community nights, and other shop initiatives
- Bring practical ideas for improving systems, increasing sales, or making the team’s work easier
- Understand that profitability matters, but that great operations, great hospitality, and a great team are how we get there
What we’re looking for
- Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a café, restaurant, or comparable fast-paced hospitality environment, including shift supervision, employee coaching, and operational management.
- Strong hospitality instincts and the ability to remain professional, approachable, and decisive under pressure.
- Experience with employee scheduling, labor management, inventory control, and cash-handling procedures.
- Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and Google Workspace. Experience with MarginEdge is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, organizational ability, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback, address performance concerns, and consistently enforce company policies.
- Interest in specialty coffee, food and beverage culture, tabletop gaming, and community-oriented spaces is a plus.
- A genuine interest in developing leadership skills and taking on additional responsibilities.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional special events.
- Valid California Food Handler Card or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Food Protection Manager Certification preferred.
- This position requires prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending and reaching, and occasionally lifting or moving items weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Compensation: $26.00-$30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a nonexempt position subject to applicable overtime, meal-period, and rest-period requirements. All hours worked must be accurately recorded.
This position is classified as a supervisory management role and does not participate in the employee tip pool.
